This is the most common cause of heel pain in children and adolescents. It is caused by infflamation of the growth plate of the heel bone. It occures due to repeated stresses on the heel especially during high impact activities like jumping, running, etc. It typically occurs during periods of growth spurts (9-14 yrs).
Treatment involves drugs like NSAIDS, elevated heels or heel pads use, calf stretching exercises and avoiding high impact sports activities for some time.
Symptoms may recur after resumption of sports but will not recur once the growth plate has matured into solid bone.
