A Morton’s Neuroma is used to describe a painful enlarged or inflamed nerve on the under surface of the foot usually between the 2nd or 3rd web space of the toes. This may be caused by prolonged use of ill-fitting high heel shoes or injury in that region of the foot. This may cause a sharp burning or tingling sensation in the toes. Use of broad toe box low heel shoes with shoe pads under the forefoot bones can help relieve symptoms in majority of cases. Surgical removal of the thickened nerve or its decompression or use of steroid injections may be required in cases of persistent disabling symptoms.
